Either way the Arsenal boss has obviously decided to make do without the 26 year old Frenchman who was once the answer to all of their defensive midfield problems.

After an initial misunderstanding, Arsenal have been made aware that Valencia are expecting to be paid to remove Francis Coquelin from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin is set to join Valencia.

"They all said that Valencia is a great city and a big club, so I am very happy to be here", he told the club's official website.

Coquelin spoke with Arsenal teammates Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin and Santi Cazorla about the move with all four having nothing but positives to give. They were very good.

Discussing Coquelin's imminent departure to Valencia, Wenger added: "He goes to Valencia because he didn't get enough games with us this season".

Asked by Sky Sports after Arsenal drew 0-0 at Chelsea if Coquelin was about to leave Arsenal, Wenger replied: "Yes". I think the players are doing a great job'.

Arriving in the summer of 2008 from Stade Laval in France, Coquelin came through the ranks at Arsenal, making his debut in a League Cup tie with Sheffield United in September that year.

Coquelin has spent nearly a decade at Arsenal, with a total of 159 appearances being made in all competitions during his time in North London.
