"Nvidia Drive Xavier is a key element of Aurora's computer, delivering the performance needed to power our self-driving system, said Aurora CEO Chris Urmson". "It starts with, of course, building a brand-new type of processor we call the Drive Xavier, an autonomous machine processor that is able to do deep learning, perception, has the ability to do parallel computing and also computer vision and high-performance computing at very, very energy-efficient levels". These "mobility-as-a-service" fleets-a system VW Group is now developing-will initially include smaller self-driving vehicles that people can hail as well as larger vans.

Sharing the stage with Huang, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess discussed how AI is revolutionising the auto industry and highlighted Volkswagen's exciting new rebirth of the iconic Volkswagen MicroBus, the new I.D.

Nvidia is working with more than 320 companies worldwide on other automotive applications and other current partnerships in the industry include Tesla, Baidu and Audi. Xavier is a complete system-on-a-chip processor that's essentially an AI brain for self-driving cars. The company will separately work with China's Baidu Inc. and Aurora Innovation Inc., a self-driving vehicle startup based out San Francisco, to develop new autonomous-driving products based on its chips. "Combining the imagination of Volkswagen with NVIDIA, the leader in AI technology, enables us to take a big step into the future". Two Xavier chipsets form part of a larger Nvidia platform for AI and self-driving, dubbed Pegasus.

It will be housed and administrated by the National Women's Law Center , and now has more than $13 million in donations. The letter was signed by actresses such as Meryl Streep , Reese Witherspoon , Natalie Portman , and Kerry Washington .

Elsewhere, Uber revealed that vehicles powered by Nvidia hardware have already driven over two million miles autonomously during tests. Drive IX is a software developer kit that Nvidia created to tap into the power of Xavier, and Volkswagen will use it to build in features like facial recognition, gesture control, natural language processing, and more. In the near future, it is quite likely that all of the cars will come equipped with digital assistants like Alexa and Nvidia will help in its implementation. Production vehicles utilizing AI self-driving technologies from NVIDIA, ZF and Baidu are expected on the roads of China starting in 2020.

First, Volkswagen will be bringing co-pilot capabilities into its cars by infusing Nvidia AI solutions in assistance systems like Voice Assistant, gaze tracking and even leveraging real-time data for better driving.
