Conyers is facing numerous allegations of sexual assault and harassment from former female employees.

The Detroit Free Press on Monday reported that Elisa Grubbs, who previously worked for Conyers, said she saw the congressman touched another one of his accusers, Marion Brown, inappropriately and said Conyers also groped her on one occasion in church. Al Franken (D-MN). Last week, Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) was also publicly named as the first sitting member of Congress known to have used a little-known Congressional account to settle an $84,000 sexual harassment claim brought by his former communications director in 2015.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee took to the House floor to read a letter by Conyers to his colleagues, saying he notified the Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi that he was vacating his seat. Shortly thereafter, the RNC renewed their financial support of Roy Moore's campaign. Conyers has repeatedly denied claims of sexual harrassment and misconduct by staffers.

He added that he hopes his retirement will be viewed in the "larger perspective" of his more than 50 years as a lawmaker.

Buzzfeed News reported on November 20 that Conyers had settled a complaint in 2015 from a woman who alleged she was sacked from his Washington staff because she rejected his sexual advances. Another former staff member accused Conyers of sexual misconduct and filed a lawsuit, but dropped the suit when the court refused to seal the case.

Rep. John Conyers' attorney is expected to make an announcement later this morning.

Conyers called the events leading to his early retirement "a game of politics", but said he and his family are taking what has happened in stride and they are dealing with it and will keep moving forward.

"I was taught by a great woman, my mother, to honor women", Conyers wrote, according to the congresswoman.

Conyers' attorney Arnold Reed tweeted Monday that he and the congressman will appear on the 102.7 FM Mildred Gaddis radio show on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m.to announce the Detroit Democrat's decision on whether he plans to stay in Congress.

The elder Conyers, however, continued to deny the allegations leveled against him.

As the furor grew in recent weeks, he stepped down as the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and the Ethics Committee began looking into the allegations.

"Whatever they are they are not accurate, they are not true, and I think that they are something that I can't explain where they came from", said Rep. Conyers.

Gaddis asked Conyers to clarify what he meant.

Ian Conyers told the newspaper that his great-uncle - the longest-serving current U.S. House member - "is not resigning". He will now be leaving the seat he's held since 1965.
