Sanjay Leela Bhansali will meet Parliamentary Panel today related to his upcoming Indian period drama movie titled "Padmavati". In dismissing a petition seeking a stay on the UKrelease of the film, the bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, reprimanded people in public offices who were commenting on whether the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) should certify the film. "So we have not given them any screening date yet", an official said.

"Padmavati" director Sanjay Leela Bhansali today appeared before a parliamentary standing committee on information technology to share his views on the controversy surrounding the film.

Top Union ministers too have said Bhansali should consult with opponents of the film and historians to arrive at a version that is acceptable to them all.

The Supreme Court will hear the plea filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma against the film Padmavati on Tuesday. The makers of the movie have submitted the three application which includes the latest 3D one, to the Censor Board.

Even though the CBFC has not yet issued a certificate to the film, and none of the objectors have, therefore, seen it, there have been widespread (and sometimes violent) protests across the country to oppose it.

Taking exception to some portions of Sharma's petition, the court said it was "unwarranted and scurrilous". The court is saying that the remarks were tantamount to pre-judging the movie is yet to be certified by the censor board.

While Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath blamed the filmmakers for the controversy, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh said distortion of history can not be tolerated.

The Supreme Court made the observations after ministers of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have demanded that Padmavati be banned or not released until changes are made. Among the questions, it is rumored that the panel will also be sharing opinions about movies based on historic figures and the extent to which a director or creator can be allowed to go to make his/her vision possible without hurting the sentiments of religious groups.

"Padmavati" stars Deepika, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead.
