Police say two people suffered minor injuries when a gun discharged at a mall crowded with holiday shoppers in New York's Hudson Valley.

Town of Wallkill Chief of Police Robert Hertman said at a news conference Sunday that police received a call at 3:07 p.m. reporting shots fired at the Galleria, according to published video of the conference.

Two individuals were injured, as indicated by News 12 Westchester, yet the degree of their wounds was not promptly clear.

"It appears that a male wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and gray trousers discharged one round from a handgun into the floor of the second-level mall in front of the American Eagle store", says Walkill Police Chief Robert Hertman. He said police are still seeking the man whose gun went off. It's unclear if the shot fired was an "accidental discharge" or intentional, he said, but the gun was pointing down at the floor when it was sacked.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect and the investigation is still ongoing.

Police say there were likely thousands of shoppers in the mall at the time and the building was evacuated successfully.
