The announcement comes days after the Madras High Court ordered that the bye-poll must be conducted by the end of the year.It also comes a day after the Election Commission recognised the ruling faction of Edappadi Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam as the AIADMK and allotted them the two leaves symbol.

The last date for filing nominations is December 4 and withdrawal of candidature is on December 7. The seat fell vacant after the sudden demise of Jayalalithaa on December 5 previous year.

The Madras High Court. had, early this week, directed the poll panel to conduct the byelection to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, lying vacant for almost a year, by December 31.

The by-election scene in Tamil Nadu hotted up on Saturday with the DMK renominating its candidate Marudhu Ganesh in the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency, and immediately got support from the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruttai Katchi (VCK) and All India Forward Bloc.

Earlier, the poll panel had made a decision to hold bypoll to the constituency on April 12 but it was later cancelled in the wake of allegations of "cash-for-votes".

He declined to comment on the party's probable candidate to fight the by-election.

For the April 12 bypoll, which was canceled subsequently, the AIADMK (Sasikala faction) had named T T V Dhinakaran as its candidate. The bypolls is expected to serve as the acid test for the AIADMK government as the constituency is likely to witness a four-cornered contest with nominees from AIADMK, DMK, BJP and TTV Dhinakaran jumping into the fray. "We will appeal to other parties as well to extend their support to our nominee", DMK working president M K Stalin told reporters at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, here.

Dinakaran had earlier said he would contest in the by-election whenever it is held.

The constituency came into prominence after Jayalalithaa chose to contest the seat in June 2015 after the Karnataka high court acquitted her in the disproportionate assets case.
