Brazile found a smoking gun document in the form of an agreement that in exchange for fundraising for the DNC, the Hillary Clinton campaign would for all intents and purposes take control of the Democratic Party.
She began investigating whether Clinton "rigged the nomination process" as emails hacked from the DNC and published by WikiLeaks previous year had suggested, she said in an except of her new book coming out next week that appeared Thursday in Politico.
"By September 7, the day I called Bernie, I had found my proof and it broke my heart".
It centers on a fundraising agreement that Clinton's campaign signed with the DNC which essentially kept it afloat and allowed her aides to control the party.
"Individuals who had maxed out their $2,700 contribution limit to the campaign could write an additional check for $353,400 to the Hillary Victory Fund-that figure represented $10,000 to each of the thirty-two states' parties who were part of the Victory Fund agreement-$320,000-and $33,400 to the DNC", Brazile writes. I explained that the cancer was that she had exerted this control of the party long before she became its nominee.
Last year, Ms Brazile took over as DNC chair after Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced out of the role over leaked emails suggesting she had favoured Ms Clinton during the primary.
Throughout the primary, Sanders, whose populist message resonated with party's liberal base, battled with the DNC, saying the organization was showing favoritism toward Clinton by, among other things, offering a limited number of debates.

"Debbie (Wasserman Schultz) was not a good manager", Brazile wrote in excerpts released in Politico on Thursday.
Warren said the allegations are a "real problem" and called on new DNC chair Tom PerezThomas Edward PerezClinton's top five vice presidential picks Government social programs: "Triumph of hope over evidence Labor's "wasteful spending and mismanagement" at Workers" Comp MORE to unite the party.
"(Schultz) let Clinton's headquarters in Brooklyn do as it desired", Brazile wrote.
'Money in the battleground states usually stayed in that state, but all the other states funneled that money directly to the DNC, which quickly transferred the money to Brooklyn, ' according to Brazile.
This is also somewhat self-serving for Brazile, given the DNC continued to struggle during and after her tenure, especially financially. She said the only way the party survived was from the money Mrs. Clinton's campaign was providing.
Although he eventually campaigned for Clinton after she clinched the nomination, Sanders spent the next several months claiming that the primary system was "rigged" against him, only to be roundly dismissed by party leadership. "We'll give you some money, but we're going to put you on an allowance, and we're going to control the state, local and national fundraising apparatus, '" Watters said. "They wanted her to be the nominee", he said.
