A British woman who was an active online recruit for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria was killed in a USA drone strike earlier this year, The Sun newspaper reported Thursday.

The Defence Secretary made the comments at a press conference following reports of the death of "White Widow" Sally Jones, a notorious IS recruiter who is said to have been killed in a missile strike near the Iraq/Syria border.

MI6 spies were reportedly tracking the movements of Jones, who travelled with Jojo to Syria in 2013 to marry Hussain. There have been several such claims of IS militants having been killed only for them to resurface months later.

Britain on Thursday refused to confirm reports that a U.S. drone had killed a middle-aged British mother, also known as the "white widow,", who had joined Islamic State jihadists in Syria.

Steve Smith returns home from India after injury
Stand-in skipper David Warner made eight, while the injured Steve Smith ran the drinks and will return to Australia on Sunday. It had to be a silly question as this lineup has proven themselves capable of chasing down the biggest of targets.

Her young son Jojo was not known to be with her at the time of the strike and was not intentionally targeted, though he is presumed dead, as well. "Quite frankly, it's good riddance", a British official reportedly said in response to the news.

"She added: "(Jones) was crying and wants to get back to Britain but ISIS is preventing her because she is now a military wife. "I do not have any information that would substantiate that report but that could change and we are looking into this" Major Adrian Rankine-Galloway, a Pentagon spokesman, told the Guardian.

Sally Jones was an aspiring punk rock musician in England. A 2015 airstrike killed Hussain, and now experts say she died the same way, along with her 12-year-old son. In the 90's, she played in the all-woman band Krunch. Jones always traveled with her son as a human shield to avoid assassination.

The nickname "white widow" is also attributed to Samantha Lewthwaite- the widow of the 2005 London attacker Germaine Lindsay- who has since been linked to a number of terror plots in Africa. Hussain, who died in a USA drone strike in 2015, was accused of planning "barbaric attacks against the West".
