National Basketball Association changes 2018 All-Star Game format

Captains can choose any player who was voted to the All-Star Game as a starter or reserve, regardless of conference affiliation.

This is the second consecutive year the National Basketball Association has made a tradition-breaking shift in its All-Star game format.

Instead of Eastern Conference stars vs. "We're looking forward to putting on an entertaining show in L.A.", Paul said. Two captains will be chosen for two teams, and captains elect players from pool of players voted. The 67th NBA All-Star Game is set for 8 p.m. February 18 from the Staples Center in L.A.

The captains for both teams will each be the All-Star starter from each conference who gets the most fan votes. For next season's 2018 All-Star Game in Los Angeles, the East and West All-Star teams are dissolved.

The NBA's 67th All-Star Game goes down in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 18 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT), with TNT holding you down if you can't make the trip.

Although the Heat can pay him more, money won't be the only thing the 12-time All-Star will consider in his decision. James and Wade shared four seasons together thriving in South Beach and many offseason with each other's families.

Fan voting will begin on Christmas Day. In addition to Anthony, Jimmy Butler and Paul George were also traded from East to West for younger players, while Paul Millsap signed with the Denver Nuggets as a free agent.

"We're excited about the new All-Star format and appreciate the players' willingness to try something new", said NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell.

It was not immediately clear when captains would announce their picks for the new All-Star teams.

Though the format is different, the selection process - 12 players from each conference earning bids - will remain the same. Additionally, the coaches will select seven reserves for their respective teams.

Back-to-backs per team have been reduced for the third consecutive season to just 14.9 back-to-backs per team this season, and the league has eliminated scenarios in which teams play four games in five days.
