Julia Louis-Dreyfus holds her Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series for "Veep" at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California September 18, 2017.

This week, Louis-Dreyfus broke a record by earning her seventh Emmy for lead actress in a comedy and her eighth overall for acting.

Accepting the coveted trophy, Julia said: "This is and continues to be the role of a lifetime and an adventure of utter utter joy", before praising her fellow nominees, Pamela Adlon, Jane Fonda, Allison Janney, Ellie Kemper, Tracee Ellis Ross and Lily Tomlin. It also makes her the only actor or actress to win that many Emmys for the same role.

Louis-Dreyfus joked that they had planned a storyline about an impeachment "but we abandoned that because we were anxious someone else might get to it first".

Donald Glover's FX show is beloved by critics, and it won awards last night for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

McKinnon bested two of her SNL co-stars, Leslie Jones and Vanessa Bayer, while Melissa McCarthy won for her guest work.

More history was made in the best comedy writing award, which was shared by Lena Waithe and Aziz Ansari for penning his Netflix sitcom Master Of None.

Do you think the right woman was named this year's Outstanding Actress in a Comedy?

If this report about Veep's return is accurate, it's a big deal, as the HBO series has had several of the Emmys' comedy categories locked up for the past few 2018, Veep's absence will give some other shows their time to shine, in the same way that Game of Thrones' absence this year allowed The Handmaid's Tale to sweep. "It is a complicated, insidious disease".

"It is filled with shame and secrecy, and by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more", she said.

Writing, Limited Series, Movie or Special: Charlie Brooker, "Black Mirror: San Junipero".

It's a three-peat for "The Voice", which has won the best reality competition Emmy Award again. Spicer walked on the stage, pushing a podium, during Colbert's opening monologue, satirizing the much-publicized debate over the size of the crowd at President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony.
