PM Modi leaves for China to attend BRICS Summit

Hosted by President Xi Jinping on September 5, the summit had a significant role to play in revival of sluggish global economy with enhancing the circle of friends to convert it into BRICS Plus, he told a huge gathering of journalists here at BRICS media center.

Bilateral meetings including Xi-Putin talks expected late Sunday could touch on other worldwide issues, such as concerns over North Korea. At the Xiamen summit, they will be taking aim at protectionist policies and values being instituted by US President Donald Trump and his European counterparts.

Improving ties after the recent face off is work in progress, however, any improvement in the situation would need constant trust building efforts as the memory from Doka La standoff is still raw.

Modi is expected to raise topics of global challenges like terrorism and economic cooperation will also be addressed at the summit. "We BRICS countries are committed to upholding global peace and contributing to the worldwide security order".
