Chelsea will return to Premier League action with a trip to 2016 champions Leicester City on Saturday 9 September. Costa's registration offers the possibility of a shock lifeline but, more realistically, it is the latest move by Chelsea in a possible legal battle.
The Spain global made it clear he favoured a return to Atletico Madrid and has been holding out for such a move ever since and according to Goal.com, with no deal coming his way Chelsea have taken the decision to include Costa within their squad.
"I know that this (big effort) will happen, but if it's to pay the amount that Chelsea want it won't be possible".
Atletico Madrid where he looks at returning to are serving a ban and can not sign any player till January. But it is clear that the coach does not count on me and does not want me there. I wouldn't be allowed access to the first-team dressing room and I would have no contact at all with the guys. You have to leave.

Costa has been training alone in Brazil for the past two months.
In fact, he has apparently given no indication that he is prepared to return to London after remaining in Brazil over the summer.
Multiple reports suggested that Costa would have signed for Los Colchoneros this summer and loaned out until January, when their transfer embargo is lifted, but no deal took place.
Stay tuned to see how this one turns out.
