Moscow "assumes" that Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump during next week's G20 summit in Germany, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

The G20 leaders will meet in Hamburg on July 7 and 8 and Gabriel welcomed the possibility that the summit could facilitate bringing together Trump and Putin, who have yet to meet.

"As the president has made clear, he would like the United States and the leaders of the entire West to develop a more constructive relationship with Russian Federation", said Trump's top security adviser.

Allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the USA presidential election a year ago and colluded with Trump's campaign have overshadowed the businessman's unexpected victory and have dogged his first five months in office.

The United States backs rebel groups trying to overthrow Assad, and Washington angered Russian Federation by launching missile strikes against a Syrian government air base in April in response to what the United States says was a chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians. It's unclear what the U.S. would get in return for the concessions, and both the NSC and State Department are said to be against giving Putin anything simply to improve relations.

Donald Trump is considering offering Russian President Vladimir Putin concessions, and we have no idea what Trump is getting in return.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has already warned "master of the deal" Trump that "Putin also knows how to negotiate, and does it always in the interest of Russia". The officials say the amount of substantial contact Moscow has with the US administration is minimal.

That has included some types of sanctions relief and the potential return of two properties in the United States to Russian control, according to two administration officials. The Kremlin threatened "retaliatory measures" agains the US for the seizure of the compounds earlier this week.
