No word on when other countries will be added to the list.
While the person who requests the ride must still be billed, entering a pickup address other than the Global Positioning System location of the requester will automatically prompt the user about booking the ride for someone else. This will call up a request dialog that asks whether the ride is for your, or for "Someone Else", which will then open up your address book, let you pick a contact and then set the destination for the ride and send the request. In its announcement, Uber also mentions its benefits for those who don't own a smartphone (gasp, in this day and age, you should be ashamed of yourself).
Not satisfied with just getting you from point A to point B, Uber now wants to give you the ability to request a ride for a loved one. This was in particular a big request for riders internationally, whose loved ones maybe don't have smartphones or good connectivity, with also a specific emphasis on seniors".
Otherwise, the booking and tracking process remains the same, with the requester selecting the type of vehicle, and being able to track the driver's progress in real-time. Best of all, account holders are able to keep tabs on the driver and ride in their app as usual, so you can make sure grandma arrives at her destination without any hiccups.
Unlike its ridesharing app, the company has promised that drivers will get paid within 7 days.
