"It is believed that the Quran was first revealed to Muhammad during the month of Ramadan". The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) follows guidance from the Fiqh Council of North America, which relies on astronomical calculations of the moon sighting in Mecca, the city in Saudi Arabia that is considered the birthplace of Islam. Millions of Muslims across the globe are preparing to celebrate one of their biggest religious festivals, Eid Al Fitr, which could start this weekend. The time when Eid starts also depends on where you are in the world, and when the new moon is seen.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday to mark the end of fasting month of Ramzan, it was announced on Saturday.

Later, everyone wishes each other and exchange gifts with love.

It begins with a greeting: either "Eid Mubarak", or "Blessed Eid".

The celebration is a public holiday in many Muslim countries, but is not one in the United Kingdom, despite a campaign for it to be recognised back in 2014. For some communities, Roza ended on Saturday after the sighting of the moon and Eid will be celebrated today.

If the moon is sighted, the first day of Eid al-Fitr will fall on Sunday.

The festival is known in full as Eid al-Fitr and it is just around the corner.
