Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he offered his prayers as Warmbier's parents "enter a time of grief no parent should ever know", and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Warmbier's death "touches the American heart like no other".

A coroner's office in OH is investigating the death of a 22-year-old college student who died shortly after his return to the USA after almost a year and a half in North Korean detention, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The coroner's office also reviewed medical records from University of Cincinnati Medical Center and AeroMed Management Group.

They said that Warmbier's brain injury was probably caused by cardiopulmonary arrest cutting the blood supply to the brain. It is not clear if Trump was referring to that call or if he has spoken with the Warmbiers since their son died. The North Koreans blamed a combination of botulism and sleeping pills for Mr. Warmbier's condition, but the doctors found no evidence of botulism.

He had been detained in North Korea since January 2016, when he was arrested in Pyongyang for attempting to steal a propaganda poster from a hotel. However, an autopsy will not be performed in accordance to the family's wishes.

Warmbier's funeral is set for 9 a.m. on Thursday at his former high school just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. "We'll continue to work with them and others to put pressure on North Korea to change this behavior and the regime", Spicer said.

Otto Warmbier's heartfelt speech during his high school graduation four years ago was the last time his classmates would hear his voice before he embarked on a tour to North Korea while in college.

Warmbier and Gratton met in Beijing before their flight to North Korea, where they became fast friends.

In response, President Donald Trump issued a terse statement condemning North Korea, which is still holding three Americans hostage.

The organizers of Warmbier's trip say they will no longer take USA citizens to the country.

Trump on Scalise's condition
CNN's Manu Raju reported Thursday that Scalise remained in critical condition after coming out of his latest surgery. Jack Sava , director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center said at a news conference Friday afternoon.

Let us state the facts plainly: Otto Warmbier, an American citizen, was murdered by the Kim Jong-un regime.

Sens. John McCain and Marco Rubio have called the distressing case a murder. "Working with such a country, we must achieve the goal of the complete dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program", Moon said during the interview.

Justin Weber said that a press conference is expected later to provide details.

The death of USA student Otto Warmbier following his incarceration in North Korea has shaken tour companies catering to thrill seekers, with several reconsidering whether to take Americans to the reclusive state.

Doctors last week revealed that Warmbier had suffered severe neurological injuries, and described him as being in a state of "unresponsive wakefulness", opening his eyes and blinking, but showing no signs of understanding language or of being aware of his surroundings.

This story has been corrected to show the coroner's last name is Sammarco, not Sammaraco.

The tour operator said that it was denied any opportunity to meet with Warmbier after his detention, and that the way it was handled was "appalling". Tour operators told the wire service that Americans account for about a fifth of all non-Chinese tourism to North Korea.

His family said Monday that he first appeared anguished when he first arrived home, but died "at peace".

19 June 2017 - Mr Warmbier dies.
