Nashville Predators beat Ducks 6-3, head to Stanley Cup Final

It was an unbelievable night to be at the Bridgestone Arena tonight as the Nashville Predators defeated the Anaheim Ducks, 6-3, to win the Western Conference Championship.

Police also warn that there could be professional scalpers from all over the country traveling to Nashville with the goal of cheating people out of tickets to the Stanley Cup Finals game. They clinched the series by scoring three unanswered goals in the final six minutes of the third period, finishing off Anaheim in the six-game conference finals.

In their 18th season, the Predators are playing for their first Stanley Cup, and the contributions of their Admirals alumni are a big reason why.

Now, the Preds will take on the victor of the Penguins-Senators series, which the Pens lead 3-2 and can end with a win on Tuesday.

Nashville waits: Knocking the smile off Pekka Rinne's face right now is almost impossible.

"It's a pretty surreal experience to play for the Cup", said Predators forward Colin Wilson.

I was lucky enough to be in the building to watch the Preds pull out a gutsy, physical win against a very competitive Ducks team 6-3, to conclude maybe one of the most back and forth, gritty series I've ever seen.

Laviolette joked that probably means he's been fired a lot.

"Our guys know the big picture", Laviolette said of his Predators. "They understand what it is that we're trying to do here, and when that time comes we'll be ready".

Argentina now lie fifth in their qualification group and only the top four automatically go through to the finals. Argentina face four further World Cup qualifying games, starting with a stern test away to Uruguay in August.

This does, somehow, feel like a long time coming for a franchise with more continuity than a relatively recent expansion team ought to have. The Penguins took a 1-0 lead and went on to out-shoot the Senators 46-30 for the game.

Fisher, who has yet to record a point in 14 playoff games after logging 42 points in 72 regular-season games, initially suffered a head injury in the team's game four loss to the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Finals.

"Our effort was there and we were a desperate hockey club right from the opening faceoff, and we didn't quit until they scored the second empty-net goal", Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said.

After defeating the Anaheim Ducks in game six of the Western Conference Finals with a whopping 6-3 score, the Preds will move on in an unprecedented climb to the top of the National Hockey League. We just believe in ourselves.

Perry's score came from just below the Nashville goal line, rifling a shot off Rinne's skate and into the net.

Getzlaf was also prominent, and he was playing with different linemates almost every night, but he also couldn't find the net in the series, and his three assists came in the same game.

But this has been the best post-season ever for Rinne, the three-time Vezina Trophy finalist - a stretch ranking among the NHL's best. Former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George waved the rally towel to crank up the fans. Throngs packed the plaza outside the arena's front doors and the park across the street. They launched 73 pucks toward Pekka Rinne. But they had goalie Jonathan Bernier making his first career playoff start, after John Gibson was scratched with a hamstring injury. Jhonas Enroth dressed as Bernier's backup. Watson's wrister deflected off the stick of Anaheim center Ryan Kesler at 1:21, and Sissons wired home a wrister at 8:47 from the high slot.

That depth has paid off, particularly the last two games after losing top center Ryan Johansen after Game 4 to emergency surgery on his left thigh. I had never truly experienced the term "deafening" until last night in the final 5 or so minutes of the game. Laviolette joins Scotty Bowman (St. Louis, Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit), Dick Irvin (Chicago, Toronto and Montreal) and Mike Keenan (Flyers, Chicago, Rangers) taking at least three teams to the Final. The Eastern Conference Final will end tomorrow (May 25).
