President Donald Trump is backtracking from his support of Steve Bannon

Bannon last week lost his position as a "principal" on the National Security Council and Trump has told the often disheveled former TV producer and documentarian to stop feuded with Jared Kushner, son-in-law of the President and the man who appears to now have Trump's ear.

- In a pair of interviews, President Donald Trump gave a skewed account of auto jobs and health care under his watch and flatly contradicted himself on how long he's known his right-hand strategist, Steve Bannon.

"I am my own strategist".

"I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late", Trump told the New York Post. "I am committed to doing whatever it takes to win this election, and ultimately become President because our country can not afford four more years of the failed Obama-Clinton policies which have endangered our financial and physical security".

Following the various blunders that have plagued this administration since its first day, Kushner and Ivanka Trump are pushing hard for a more "open process driven by the interests of the president, not ideology", according to an Axios report on Saturday. Trump was given a chance to say that he has Bannon's back in the New York Post, but he didn't seem too eager to do that.

"The President demands absolute loyalty", says one former employee of the Trump Organization. Even if he hangs on, his authority has been dramatically undercut - a White House staffer is only powerful if others in the administration and outside it believe he is speaking for the president.

Earlier Wednesday, fellow aide Kellyanne Conway appeared to also take a shot at Bannon, who described the media as the "opposition party".

More than 150 law enforcement officers were searching for 32-year-old Joseph Jakubowski, said Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden. It was unclear if Jakubowski, who according to local media was unemployed, remains in Wisconsin or if he had left the state.

Among other significant domestic and worldwide portfolios pushed under his purview, Kushner has been given the responsibility of brokering peace in the Middle East, representing Trump overseas as a foreign emissary, reaching out to the Muslim community and last week, he became the most senior administration official to visit Iraq.

Bannon, a former executive chairman of the Breitbart News website, once said the media company was a "platform for the alt-right".

"I'm an admirer of Steve Bannon and the Trump family", Sessions said during an interview with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham.

Trump has made keeping auto manufacturing jobs in the US a theme, needling those and other companies that planned to move operations out of the country.

Rather than quash the rumors of tension in the White House, Trump told Goodwin that it needed to be addressed.

Perhaps Bannon will play along, as Breitbart News staffers have recently been asked by senior editors to quit writing negative stories about Kushner, sources told Business Insider.

The president ordered Kushner and Bannon to sit down and work things out Friday at Mar-a-Lago.
