U.S. President Donald Trump's first meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, took place at Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 6.

Points of tension like North Korea's nuclear ambitions and the U.S-China trade imbalance were being overshadowed on the first day of talks by the USA missile strikes on Syria.

Trump, a NY real estate magnate before he ran for office, joked before dinner: "We've had a long discussion already, and so far I have gotten nothing, absolutely nothing".

Xi further said that the bilateral relationship between the two countries has made historic progress and brought enormous and pragmatic benefits to the peoples of both sides while experiencing ups and downs since the normalization of China-US relations 45 years ago.

His plane landed at West Palm Beach where he was greeted by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

They are expected to attend at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday night and meet most of the day Friday.

China's president Xi Jinping to meet with U.S. president Donald Trump. "I would get him a McDonald's hamburger and say we've got to get down to work because you can't continue to devalue (the Chinese currency)", Trump said in August 2015 on Fox News, as Obama prepared to host Xi for a state dinner at the White House the next month. "We renew our strong commitments to our allies in Asia and around the world".

The pair then formally posed with their wives, Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan, on the steps before making their way to dinner.

Syria's regime has denied any use of chemical weapons and state media on Friday described the USA strike as an "act of aggression". The timing of Thursday's attack on Syria, during Trump's meeting with Xi, will probably give weight to Washington's threats to deal with North Korea's nuclear and missile programs unilaterally if necessary.

Trump and Xi are spending part of Friday in talks at Trump's estate in Florida.

Danny Willett stone-cold shanked one on Friday at the 2017 Masters
At the very least, Willett deserves a decent defence and perhaps those magical memories from a year ago can help him deliver that. "In fairness, you look back at it, it was quite nice". "He says it's a thank you for all I've done".

Trump wants China to act more on North Korea and its nuclear ambitions. So he will certainly be urging China to do more to crack down on North Korea.

Mr Trump tweeted last week that the summit "will be a very hard one".

Climate change, which Mr Trump once dismissed as a Chinese hoax, and Beijing's building of artificial islands in the disputed South China Sea, could also come up.

Thursday's airstrike marked the first direct US military action against the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad since Syria's civil war began in 2011. The U.S. president has apparently accepted the invitation and would visit the Asian country later this year. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his US counterpart Donald Trump here on Thursday.

Stapleton Roy, a former U.S. ambassador to China, said the meeting can deal with substantive issues and also help establish a personal relationship that will be helpful when differences emerge.

"Many Finnish companies have had great success in China, pointing to the win-win nature of our economic, scientific and technological cooperation", Xi wrote in a piece for the Helsinki Times.

"It's a venue that connotes the USA president is interested in building a personal relationship with Xi Jinping", said Evan Medeiros, former National Security Commission China director in the Obama administration. But more importantly, I think it says a lot about the United States power and preeminent leadership role.

When he concluded, Mr. Trump said: "I agree 100 percent".

Last week, the president predicted in a tweet that his meeting with Mr Xi would be "very difficult".
