Four off-duty police officers are contracted by the club's owner to patrol the parking lot. It was not immediately clear how many people fired shots. City officials urged potentially reluctant witnesses to help, saying they would be protected. Rodgers said in a statement Sunday that Cameo will remain closed until the police investigation is complete.

Fourteen people were injured and one person is dead after a shooting at the Cameo Night Club in the East End Sunday morning.

Police Chief Eliot Isaac declined to say whether police have identified possible suspects in the Sunday gun violence inside the Cameo club, a popular hip-hop music spot near the OH river east of downtown Cincinnati. Seven other people were treated for injuries, and at least five of them had been treated and released by noon Sunday.

Assistant Chief Paul Neudigate tweeted that the "motive is still unclear, but there are no indication this incident is terrorism related". Some patrons have said people could pay to avoid the long line to get into the club, which police said had some 200 people inside.

O'Bryan Spikes, 27, died in the shooting. Several others were treated and released at area hospitals.

"People were just going to have a good time and ended up getting shot".

"People running, dodging, trying to get out of the way", says Mauricio Thompson, a witness. Spikes was a father and junior college student who came to the club often, they said. "It was just insane".

Officers in those situations are allowed to provide security only outside the clubs, Police Chief Eliot Isaac said.

The club has a security system that should have kept the guns out.

Black added: "Cameo club has a history of gun violence including a shooting inside the club on New Years Day 2015 and a shooting in the parking lot in September of the same year". "Just a lot of chaos when the shots went off".

Two of the people shot are from Trotwood.

Mayor John Cranley called the shooting of so many people enjoying themselves at a club "absolutely unacceptable".

The vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives team was also at the scene.

"I've heard that the officers that were there on scene were literally stepping over victims to get to the more critically injured victims", he said.

"They ran in, they tended to the victims", says Sgt. Dan Hills, Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President".

Authorities were asking anyone with information to come forward. Investigators were checking to see if surveillance cameras were working, Williams said.

According to WRAL, two gunmen opened fire at the Cameo Club in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The area is mostly industrial but also home to several nightclubs with a smattering of homes.
