The first meeting between Xi and Trump, who last month had a phone conversation, will take place against the backdrop of increasing tension over issues such as trade, North Korea and the disputes that China has with several maritime neighbours in the South China Sea.
Trump has frequently accused China of keeping its yuan currency artificially low against the dollar to make Chinese exports cheaper, and "stealing" American manufacturing jobs.
From April 6 to 7, Xi will meet with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, the United States.
"It will be the first meeting between the heads of state of China and the United States since the new USA administration took office", Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang told a press briefing.
Earlier this month, a senior United States administration official told CNN that Trump planned to host Xi at his estate. "There's a lot of big things that we need to accomplish with China, and I think that we will - we will work on them". Trump has many times criticised China over trade issues in public speeches and remarks, and has also complained publicly that China was not doing enough to help solve the North Korea issue.

A successful meeting could be crucial in setting the tone for the relationship between the world's two largest economies in coming years.
The meeting between the two presidents was planned during Rex Tillerson's recent tour of Asia, when the US secretary of state promised to build on the USA and China.
Zheng said domestic consumption in China will increase as it pursues economic reforms, helping to raise demand for foreign goods and services, including those from the United States. After O'Reilly mentioned that President Xi was "getting a big dinner free at the White House", he asked Donald Trump if he would give the Chinese president the same treatment.
China's military build-up in the South China Sea might be another discussion item.
