The story will, at minimum, increase calls for Nunes to recuse himself from the Intelligence Committee's stalled inquiry into Russian meddling in the presidential election a year ago and into possible contacts between members of the Trump administration and Russian intelligence officials.
One of the two White House aides who helped provide classified intelligence reports to the House Intelligence Committee chairman, according to a Thursday New York Times report, was told days earlier by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster that he would be removed from his job on the National Security Council.
The source says Cohen-Watnick did not alert Nunes to the documents. Despite repeatedly being asked about the veracity of the reports, and the names cited, Spicer said the White House would not be commenting "on one-off anonymous sources that publications" publish. Nunes eventually apologized for not disclosing this new information with committee members, but things got fishy when it was discovered that Nunes got his information on White House grounds.
According to Spicer, Nunes was summoned to the White House by an "individual" and was not hiding or roaming secretly on the grounds.
"I've never seen behavior this freaky on the part of the chairman", Pelosi told TODAY about Rep. Devon Nunes, who was reportedly briefed by White House officials about inadvertent surveillance on President Trump but failed to share the information with other members of his House Intelligence Committee.

The White House on Thursday invited lawmakers from both parties to view classified material it said relates to surveillance of the president's associates.
Spicer would not say whether the information now offered to other top level members of intelligence committees was the same that Nunes had seen.
Officials said the reports consisted primarily of ambassadors and other foreign officials talking about how they were trying to develop contacts within Trump's family and inner circle in advance of his inauguration. Now there's reporting that suggests that it is within the White House, that they were the sources of this.
"At some point ... you're going to have to take "no" for an answer", he said, at one point during his answer telling a reporter to quit shaking her head. He has a Nunes connection through his former position as general counsel to the House Intelligence Committee.
Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, speaks to the press about the committee's ongoing investigation on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., on March 30, 2017. "Clearly very different from two men who work inside and for the White House". This is a body blow for Nunes, who presented his findings last week as if they were surprising to the White House.
