Oakland County is the 10th healthiest county in MI, ranking ahead of neighboring Wayne and Macomb counties in health outcomes, according to the County Health Rankings Report released today.
It's the lowest rating for Black Hawk since the County Health Rankings, a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, were first released in 2010. But numerous metrics within that category - including the 17 percent of residents who reported their health as "fair" or "poor" - were relatively stable, suggesting that Guilford County's lower ranking has more to do with improvements in other counties than health deteriorating here.
Specifically, Saratoga ranked #1 in health outcomes - "how long people live and how healthy people feel while alive".
The study compares counties within states, and results show that where you live influences how well and how long you live, according to researchers.
"It means that the rate of premature death (years of potential life lost before age 75) is higher in Bibb County than in a county with a better rank", Havrilla said.
"What we're seeing is that there's an increase in deaths among 15-44 year olds and this is largely driven by drug overdoses", O'Neill said. This is in the top 10 percentile of the United States.

The annual report also introduced a new metric this year that focused on young people between 16-24 years old who are not in school or working.
Springfield Public Health Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris told 22News what work needs to be done; "In many places in Hampden County, we're dealing with a high poverty rate".

The report is the only tool of its kind that measures the overall health of the US's more than 3,100 counties. The adult smoking rate is 21 percent while adult obesity is at 33 percent.
The rate of sexually transmitted infections has been on the rise in Douglas County over the last four years. "The County Health Rankingsare an important springboard for conversations on how to do just that".
The other counties ranked among the top five in health outcomes were Scott, Red Lake, Washington and Stevens counties.
Rates are higher in rural counties and highest among American Indian/Alaskan Native, black and Hispanic youth.
Education is one of the categories in this ranking.
Chippewa County ranks 23rd in health outcomes and 24th in health factors.
The organizations behind the study also released "roadmaps" to offer communities resources to improve health.
"Communities addressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and education can make a difference creating opportunities for all youth and young adults".
