Samsung Pay launched in India, UPI integration in beta phase presently

Not to be left behind by the likes of Samsung, Apple, and Google, LG is getting prepared to launch its own mobile payment service as early as June this year, at least in South Korea, as the company officially revealed. Also new, is Unified Payments Interface (UPI) access in the Samsung Pay app. UPI and CitiBank card support is also expected to become available soon.

"Samsung Pay will work on devices which have supportive hardware and software which is required at a minimum to make Samsung Pay work".

Payments through Samsung Pay can be accepted at all places where a physical card will work.

To use Samsung Pay, a user have to swipe up on a compatible phone, choose from the registered cards, authenticate transaction using a fingerprint or PIN and bring the phone close to the point of sale (PoS) terminal.

With its launch in India, Samsung Pay is fully available in 12 global markets, including South Korea, the US, China, Spain, Singapore, Australia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Russia, Thailand and Malaysia.

"When we launched Samsung Pay, our goal was to enable consumers across the globe to make payments that are simple, secure and accepted nearly everywhere", said Thomas Ko, vice president and global GM of Samsung Pay, in a press release.

The technology allows users to hover their smartphone over a credit card reader to pay with their phone like Samsung Pay now does.

Milder temperatures ahead with gusty winds

A list of Samsung Pay compatible device includes, Samsung Galaxy Note5, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Samsung Galaxy A7, and Samsung Galaxy A5. Samsung Pay is highly secure through the signature KNOX Platform, fingerprint authentication and tokenization. To add cards to the Gear S3, users need to add them on the Samsung Gear Manager app.

Exclusive offers for Samsung Pay users were also detailed.

For adding Paytm, users will have to add Paytm through Wallet option in Samsung Pay.

The Indian market represents something of a unique challenge for any mobile payment service, insofar as specific local considerations have to be made.

Samsung Pay app registration is a one-time process, and it can be done with your Samsung Account ID and password.
