Turkish ship joins Pakistan's multinational naval drill

Speaking on his visit onboard HMS Daring, he said there is a long standing relationship between our two navies in support of common goals on maritime security.

Russian Navy's large anti-submarine ship Severmorsk arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for participation in the Aman 2017 worldwide naval exercises, Indian reports said quoting Xinhua.

The multinational naval exercises are conducted by Pakistan since 2007.

Pakistan is fully committed to ensuring freedom of navigation and lawful maritime order, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said as a multi-nation naval exercise hosted by the country kicked off in the Arabian Sea today.

He pointed out that maritime security challenges in the Indian Ocean are both multi-dimensional and multi-faceted. "Threats such as maritime terrorism, drug trafficking and piracy have acquired global dimensions", Sharif said.

He said threats like maritime terrorism, drug trafficking and piracy have reached global dimensions.He emphasised that cooperation between worldwide navies is imperative to counter these emerging threats.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Arifullah Hussaini said that "we are here for a common objective, for a common goal to ensure security, to make this world safe for us and for rest of the humanity... that is what our constitution mandates us to do".

Ships of the participating navies, observers, foreign diplomats and a large number of Pakistan Navy officers and men attended the event.
