The striker got out-struck.
Could Holm suffer a similar fate Saturday night against Germaine de Randamie in Brooklyn, N.Y.?
This weekend will be one for the books - Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie face off against each other for the Women's Featherweight Title in UFC 208 on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Just over a week after the fight was announced, the news of Cyborg's brush with the United States Anti-Doping Agency emerged.
Holm is 0-2 in her last two fights, yet is moving up to fight for a belt. Holm's attempt to rebound didn't go her way as she was outpointed by Valentina Shevchenko. "Let's fight with Holly first and see what comes after".
A loss puts her at.500 in the UFC and loser of three straight. By fighting within herself and to her capabilities, there's little doubt De Randamie shouldn't run Holm over. Competing at bantamweight, she went 4-1 in the UFC, with her only loss to current champion Amanda Nunes.
"How can you not respect Holly [Holm]", challenger Germaine de Randamie said. "So, she's very determined to get back on the winning streak". But when you win that's what makes it worth it. "But she's also beatable".
Holm has shown that she is at her most risky punishing her overly aggressive opponents on the counter attack, but when she is forced to be more proactive she can become very timid and quickly runs out of options.
Active Volume Stock: Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:DNKN)
Dunkin Brands Group Inc closed down -0.05 points or -0.10% at $51.03 with 14,73,680 shares getting traded on Tuesday. The forecast of 2 surveyed investment analysts covering the stock advises investors to Buy stake in the company.
Anderson Silva has expressed a desire to challenge fellow UFC legend Georges St-Pierre to a "super fight" as it would be good for the sport and the fans.
Holm has never won a fight by submission. De Randamie could make good on a complete career makeover, by going from faceless contender to fearsome champion.
"[Holm] now holds several welterweight titles and is highly regarded as the best female welterweight in the world". Inaccurate with her punches and countered effectively, she was out-landed - according to fightmetric.com - by an 87-54 margin. She has no equal, serving as both the reason the UFC was reluctant to create a 145-pound division and the justification for finally caving in and opening the doors. But, in the end, the strikes were decisive.
The fact de Randamie felt the need to do so is simply evidence that for all the progress women have made in sports, there is still much ground to cover. Schevchenko was able to get in and out of the reach of Holm and outstrike her, winning four of the five rounds on the judges scorecards.
"It is too early to say if she is suited at featherweight because she has been a bantamweight all throughout her MMA career".
De Randamie (6-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC), a native of Holland, isn't afraid to acknowledge the added physical benefits of having a heavier UFC weight class for women.
Also on the card, veteran Anderson Silva returns to the UFC middleweight division to take on Derek Brunson as a +125 underdog on the UFC 208 betting lines. Bringing length, physical gifts, experience and toughness, and a true fighter's mentality that has been embraced at the highest level. Silva weighed in at 185.
